Hooking up the wireless should not be that tricky, although you will better off if you can get the contractor to pull some 10bT (cat-5) from the telco pop (point of presence) to your entertainment center. You well get MUCH better bandwidth over copper than you will with wireless.

In the last house I had them run 10BT from the telco pop to each room, as well as the entertainment center area. It may cost you a little extra (like $10 to $20 per run), but I doubt you will regret it in the long run. Just make sure that you specify to the contractor that each run has to be a single and direct cable, otherwise the wiring guy may end up daisy-chaining it like they commonly do with phone and coax (TV/cable).

Then, I installed the cable/DSL modem at the telco, and use a hub/switch right there to connect all of the rooms as well as the TiVo/consoles (a second hub/switch in the entertainment center rack) via broadband. I do also have wireless (for the laptops), but for gaming or large file transfers (movies, etc) we usually jack the laptops in to the copper, too. Lagging in games will get you killed... ;-)
