Bad Uploads

I don't know if many of you know about this. But when i browse through the uploads section i notice quite a few covers that are not 300dpi scans. some of them of them look like they were scanned at a much lower resolution and resized. i will try too find as many of them as i can and link them here to make it easy to weed out. But first things first...

HOW TO IDENTIFY A BAD COVER:

usually the way i do it is look at the disclaimer right at the bottom of the cover (Usually it's the writing with the smallest font on the whole cover). If it is clear and readable, then it is a 300dpi scan or higher. If it's not clear and readable, then it's a bad scan. But there a few exceptions:
Some covers have been scanned at a high resolution but haven't had any filters applied to them, which makes the picture look funky and the fine print unreadable. So the best thing to do in this situation is to save the image, open it up, and zoom as far as you can on the fine print. If the writing is nice, clear and readable, then it's a good scan. But if the writing is blurry and hard to read, then it's a bad scan.

If anyone has an easier or better way to identify these scans please feel free to post them here.

I will have a browse around for some bad covers now. I'll post them when i find them.

I know we all want the highest quality scans and covers on this site. However, I don't think that "naming and shaming" is the best way to go about fixing issues with some scans. A better option would be to PM the scanner and offer "constructive" criticism or make "constructive" comments in the post.
I am not sure how others feel about this but it is better to have people scanning the covers and others helping fix them up(through comments or cleaning up the scan) rather than driving them away. Remember these scanners might have access to covers you want!
You can always help to improve someone's scans by offering guidance and feedback. I know when I first started scanning I knew nothing about producing a high quality result. The website I was posting on at that time had a lot of users who provided great feedback which helped improve the quality of my scans.

the idea is not to "Name and Shame" as such. It's to bring to the attention that these covers are not 300dpi. When ever i'm about to upload a cover, i'll always use the search function to see if it has already been posted (i'm sure everyone probably does this). If i see the name of the game i'm about to upload, then i won't upload it. if someone were to see these topics already posted in the uploads section, then it will discourage them from uploading their own cover, which is fine if the cover that was originally posted was 300dpi, but if it wasn't then we'd be missing out on the superior 300dpi covers.

No, i'm not trying to critisize anyone. Most of the uploaders on this site do a better job than me in most cases anyway. Hell, I bet the uploaders who have uploaded these bad covers don't even know that they are bad covers untill someone tells them.

I apreciate that everyone is just trying to do their bit to make this site great, but the fact still remains that this site is for 300dpi scans.

You can remove Silent Hill from the list now. I will have Gran Turismo 2 up tomorrow and I think I also have Grandia II.
